Expression of interests have opened for the design and construction of a new wharf at Dampier Port.

The facility will be built south of the existing Dampier Cargo Wharf and include a new berth pocket and manoeuvring area.

The new wharf will be equipped by Perdaman with bulk handling facilities for urea, including a storage shed, a conveyor system and a ship loader.

The expression of interest is being run by the Pilbara Ports Authority and closes on April 19.

The project has funding support from the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility and the State Government.

Ports Minister Rita Saffioti said the EOI was an opportunity for businesses to show their interest in working on a project that would ensure the supply of urea domestically and internationally for decades to come.

“This new piece of infrastructure will also accommodate general cargo vessels and cruise ships,” she said.

“This project will create thousands of regional jobs, including opportunities for locally-based sub-contractors.”
