Exmouth’s Mim Strom misses out on grand final after stellar AFLW season

Exmouth footy star Mim Strom has missed out on a chance at a premiership this season with the Fremantle Dockers going down to the Adelaide Crows in the preliminary final. The match took place on April 2 at Adelaide Oval, with the Crows taking the lead in the first quarter after booting 2.1 to Fremantle’s 1.0. The Dockers fought back in the second term, cutting the deficit to just seven points but were unable to maintain the pressure in the second half. In the end the Adelaide Crows defeated Fremantle by 14 points 6.4 (40) to 4.2 (26). Strom was one of the stand-out players for the Dockers, with 17 hit outs in the ruck and three marks. The 20-year-old recorded 14 disposals with seven kicks and seven handballs during the game. It marked a disappointing end to a stellar season from Strom, who averaged 13.5 hit-outs a game this year. The ruck star recorded a career high 162 hit-outs this season along with 102 disposals from her 12 games including 59 handballs and 43 kicks. Speaking to the AFL in March, Strom said it was never in her mind that she could play football as an adult “When the AFLW started, I never thought from a small town you could get picked up so quickly,” she said. “(My mum) packed up everything to move to Perth with me. She was also an incredible athlete growing up, and I just wish she had the opportunity to play football because I know she would’ve killed it as well.”
