Exmouth Chamber of Commerce and Industry secures funding to allow Base Marine become a training organisation

The Exmouth Chamber of Commerce and Industry has secured $190,000 funding to allow local business Base Marine become a registered training organisation. The fund will be provided to Base Marine over three years to allow them to offer essential high-risk work licence training to residents and business owners. This funding will save residents the cost of having to travel to Perth or neighbouring towns to complete such qualifications. Chamber operations and project manager Sarah Booth said there was a big need for this funding. “By having a registered training organisation here in Exmouth, it will alleviate all of those extra costs involved and make it heaps and heaps more affordable for our local businesses to get employees trained up in all of these different types of high-risk licenses,” she said. “It’s so important for our locals that live here to be able to find long-term sustainable work here and by having them qualify in every area possible in these high-risk work tickets, it will open the possibilities for employment.” Base Marine director Nick Tutty said the funding was the result of several years of planning and preparations. “It is the final piece of the puzzle that will allow Base to move the project from planning and into execution phase and will fast-track the initiative to be operating from as early as September this year, so it’s very pleasing and well received,” he said. “Over the next three years we will grow our training scope to offer as many types of courses as possible and continue to grow our business and support the local community while further strengthening our relationships with our funding partners and the Exmouth Chamber of Commerce and Industry.” The first round of courses will be forklift and elevated work platform certifications and will be available to the community in September 2021.
