Dampier Sharks dominate Karratha Falcons to extend undefeated run in North Pilbara Football League

The Dampier Sharks withstood a valiant Karratha Falcons to remain undefeated after five rounds in the North Pilbara Football League. A scrappy first quarter at Bulgarra Oval on Saturday night saw the Sharks keep the ball in their attacking 50 for the majority of the term. Inaccuracy in front of goal kept the Falcons in the game with the Dampier kicking 1.4 to the Falcons 0.3 at the first break. Sharks found another gear in the second quarter, booting 3.2 to the Falcons 1.1 to take a game high 20 point lead at half time. It was a back-and-forth tussle to start the second half, with both sides scoring three goals as the Sharks held off the fired up Falcons to maintain their lead at the final break. Dampier showed the Falcons why they are the form team this year, outgunning the brave home side by booting 3.5 to secure the game. The final score saw Dampier Sharks defeat Karratha Falcons 10.13 (73) to 7.8 (50). Matthew Lorne booted three goals for the Sharks with his teammates Guy Langdon and Shane Mcintosh kicking two each. Jeffery Dhu was the top goalscorer for the Falcons with a season best three goals. The victory means Dampier is now eight points clear of the Karratha Kats after five rounds. In the reserves, Dampier Sharks tore apart the Falcons in a one-sided affair. A four-goal opening term set the game up for the Sharks before they tore into the Falcons in the second quarter with five goals. An energised Sharks came out in the second half to continue their onslaught, extending their lead to a massive 70 points at the final break. A final quarter rally saved face for the Falcons, but proved too little to late, with the Sharks taking the win by 60 points. The final score was Dampier Sharks 15.10 (100) defeating Karratha Falcons 6.4 (40).
