Cylcones fail to sweep strong Bears off top spot in Basketball WA country championships

Karratha’s senior basketballers swept into Perth at the start of the month for the 2024 BWA Senior Country Championships.

Five teams travelled to the competition over the Labour Day long weekend to represent the Karratha Basketball Association.

Two teams made it to the grand finals but were pipped at the post.

The championships were held at Bendat Basketball Centre in Floreat from March 2 to 4, with 96 teams from across the State competing for glory.

The Cyclones’ men’s division 4 team fought all the way to the grand final clash, losing to the Bunbury Bears 59-22.

The women’s championship division team also made it to silver, losing their grand final to the Bunbury Bears 50-34.

The men’s masters team finished fifth overall, wining one and losing four, while the women’s division 4 team were one spot down on the ladder, finishing sixth.

The women’s division 3 side fought to the semifinals but were also stopped short by a South West team. The Busselton Blazers took the match 30-24.
