Crabs smash Kats in clash of the titans

Pegs Creek Crabs asserted their dominance over Karratha Kats in a top-of-the-table West Pilbara Cricket Association women’s clash at Bulgarra Oval on Tuesday last week.

After winning the toss, Pegs Creek elected to bat and made a steady start to the innings with a 30-run opening partnership before Jessica Pitchers was bowled by Emma Gentry for 10.

Opener Amy Rushton was joined at the crease by Ashleigh Homes as the two went about building the innings.

Rushton was eventually dismissed for 44 from 62, when she was run out trying to increase the run rate in the dying overs.

Homes remained unbeaten on 33 with Crabs making a solid 2-128. The Kats would rue their wayward bowling, conceding 36 extras.

Needing 129 to win, the Kats run chase got off to a rough start when Pitchers dismissed opener Elisha Baartz for just one.

The Kats struggled to rebuild after this, losing regular wickets with their top order dismissed, all for single-figure scores.

Unfortunately for the Kats, runs where hard to come by as the side limped to a final score of 6-88 from their 20 overs, with the Crabs conceding 46 extras.
