Crabs claw their way to top of table of the West Pilbara Cricket Associations Women’s T20 league

Pegs Creek Crabs have cemented their place on top of the West Pilbara Cricket Associations Women’s T20 league after they skittled second-placed Karratha Kats in the latest round. Kats won the toss and elected to bat at Baynton West Oval, a decision that proved costly when sharp fielding from the Crabs saw the first three wickets fall by run out, leaving the Kats limping at 3-22. Bowlers Bronwyn Thomson and Jessica Creighton then got to work ripping out the next five wickets to leave the batting side’s innings in tatters finishing their 20 overs with 58 runs. Thomson was the standout bowler with three wickets, while Creighton had two. Jodie Darvall and Jodie Darvall top scored for the Kats with 12 runs each. The Crabs survived an early scare when both their openers where dismissed leaving the home side on 2-28. Backing up their bowling partnership, Creighton and Thomson guided the side home, making 38 and 32 runs respectively. The Crabs finished their 20 overs on 2-104. In the other game, Rec Club took on the Baynton Lions in a high scoring game. Rec Club came out guns blazing as they smashed their way to a massive 2-155, with Emily Bowden making an unbeaten 71. The total proved too much for the Lions after some tight fielding saw the batting side collapse to 3-27. Angela Glover carried her bat but was unable to get her side home, finishing unbeaten on 39. In the end, Rec club defeated the Baynton Lions by 53 runs. Table-toppers Pegs Creek now sit 12 points clear, while the Rec Club is closing in on second-placed Kats, trailing by eight points with three rounds left.
