Cook Government allocates $2.34 million to assist with Karratha regional worker accommodation

The Cook Government has announced it will support the delivery of up to 82 new dwellings for key workers as part of a mixed-use development at Welcome Road in Karratha. $2.34 million of a $5.3 million infrastructure boost for regional worker accommodation has been allocated to Karratha as part of the Cook Labor Government’s $80 million Infrastructure Development Fund (IDF). The $80 million fund provides funding assistance to address upfront costs associated with connecting essential water, electricity and sewerage infrastructure, which have constrained development and impacted the viability of housing projects. The announcement of the next round of IDF funding for key worker accommodation comes weeks after the State Government announced an agreement with Perdaman to develop 100 new homes for workers at their $7 billion Karratha Urea Project. “Places like Karratha, which we know has a strong and growing local economy, need key workers across a range of professions to service our growing population and industry,” Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel said. “I’m proud that Karratha will share in the Cook Labor Government’s $5.3 million funding boost for new key worker accommodation projects.” Other WA regional areas to benefit from the $5.3 million boost include Cowaramup, Lake Grace and Beverley. Applications for the apartment rebate and infill precinct projects are open until 6 January 2025.
