City of Karratha invites youth to shape community’s future as part of Youth Advisory Group

The City of Karratha has put a call out for enthusiastic and engaged young people eager to contribute to the betterment of the community. The call is out for passionate young voices to nominate for a coveted spot on the City of Karratha Youth Advisory Group. Established in 2019, the Youth Advisory Group initiative is designed to ensure the ideas and skills of young people resonate around the council table. The focus is on fostering a partnership that enhances consultation with local youth, providing them with a direct channel to influence decisions and policies. City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott emphasised the unique opportunity the Youth Advisory Group presented its members to serve as advocates for their peers and to engage directly with councillors and senior City leadership. “Youth are our future, and we really want to hear from this part of our community,” Mr Scott said. “The Youth Advisory Group is a partnership between young people and the City of Karratha that demonstrates council’s ongoing commitment to meeting the needs of all of our residents.” The group serves as a platform for the perspectives of young people to be integrated into council decisions, covering various City functions such as youth development, events, infrastructure and town planning, service design, and development. Mr Scott encouraged all young people with an interest in local government, a passion for their community, and ideas to improving life in Karratha to consider nominating for a Youth Advisory Group role. A maximum of 12 young people, aged between 11 and 18, will be chosen to represent Karratha, Roebourne, Wickham, Dampier, and Point Samson. They will work alongside three councillors, the director of community experience, the manager of community engagement and partnerships, and senior youth officers.
