Bushfire burning near Karratha LIA

Staff reporterPilbara News

A bushfire advice has been issued for people in or around the Karratha Light Industrial Area with an out-of-control bushfire burning in the vicinity.

Volunteer and bushfire brigade firefighters are this afternoon working to contain a bushfire burning 50m west of Maitland Road, moving north.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has reported the fire is moving at a moderate speed with flames reportedly reaching three meters high.

The service issued an advice warning to City of Karratha residents this afternoon, saying there was no threat to lives or homes but asking motorists to avoid the area because of smoke.

Several roads have been closed, including Maitland Road.

You can stay up-to-date with the bushfire by going www.emergency.wa.gov.au or calling DFES on 13 33 37.

For road information, go to mainroads.wa.gov.au or call the City of Karratha.
