Welcome to 2019. I hope you all had a very special Christmas and happy new year, taking some time to relax and catch up with family and friends.

We’re back for another year and a very exciting 12 months is laid out before us.

Highlights will include the opening of the Wickham Community Hub, the start of work on the redevelopment of Dampier Palms and Hampton Oval foreshore and the construction of Welcome Park.

Works will also begin on the new hotel in the centre of Karratha, and the redeveloped Victoria Hotel will open in Roebourne featuring a cultural centre, the Roebourne Library and visitor services on the ground floor.

In addition, we’ll focus on reducing recycling contamination levels via a number of education campaigns with local contractor Cleanaway and we will continue our drive to provide quality services, more footpaths, better roads and increased lighting.

We will introduce our Security Subsidy Scheme through the Safer Communities Partnership in March, we will host the Developing Northern Australia Conference at the Red Earth Arts Precinct in July and our events calendar will feature annual favourites such as the Cossack Art Awards and Red Earth Arts Festival.

There is a busy year ahead and council have set some big goals for the City, but with a strong team behind us the council is heading into 2019 confident and determined to make this our best year yet.
