Big T brings star power to community fun day
Tom Price and Paraburdoo community members celebrated local services and activities at their annual Give It a Go days earlier this month.
The family events, joint initiatives of the Shire of Ashburton and Rio Tinto, drew about 150 people keen to try something new while also boosting the profile of local groups.
Tom Price residents toured their own town with a localised version of The Amazing Race, following a map to destinations including BMX and go-kart tracks, the youth centre and bowling club, and completing challenges at each one.
In Paraburdoo, residents sheltered from bad weather by trying a range of activities in Ashburton Hall, including emergency services games on CPR and spotting hazards.
A performance by X Factor favourite Big T ended the day’s entertainment.
Rio Tinto Paraburdoo operations general manager Gabe Iwanow said Give It a Go days were a good way for local clubs and groups to attract new members.
“Involving residents in local activities and events is important to help us find connections and a sense of place in the community,” she said.
“Each town has so much to offer and we are proud to support an event which allows people to meet new friends, try something different and see how they can be more involved in activities.”
