Baynton West Primary celebrates reading and literacy with a parade of costumes for Book Week

A parade of costumes took place last week at Baynton West Primary School as part of their celebration of reading and literacy. Held on Monday, the Book Week parade saw students dressed in costumes ranging from Harry Potter to Disney Princess Rapunzel. Department of Education Pilbara director Cheryl Parkin, who was on the judging panel, said it was good to see the school community get involved. “Days like this really help to show kids reading is fun and it’s a great way to expose kids to books who might be a bit reluctant to read,” she said, “I’m sure out of today, the kids would’ve seen there’s lots of fantastic books to read.” Baynton West Primary principal Lisa Ledger said it had been an uplifting morning. “Reading is the key to life and if you can’t read, there’s not much that you’ll be able to do so we really promote it,” she said. “The staff knew without them being enthusiastic about Book Week, the kids wouldn’t have been so excited.”
