Baynton down Rec Club in WPCA round four of 40 over competition

A middle order batting masterclass from Beant Singh powered Baynton Lions to victory over Rec Club in round four of the West Pilbara Cricket Association 40 over competition.
Baynton batted first in their round four clash at the Karratha Leisureplex on October 22 and were made to work hard for every run in the early stages of their innings.
Tight bowling and regular wickets meant Rec Club were on top early after reducing Lions to 5-67.
However, Singh blasted a quickfire 72 runs to steer the side out of the rocky position and to a strong total of 161.
Three bowlers from the Rec Club each snared two wickets, including Regan Brodie (2-23) and Les Casserly (2-29).
In reply, Rec Club got off to a strong start making it to 4-109 before the innings turned on its head.
A collapse of 6-34 saw the run chase fall apart as the Rec Club slipped to being dismissed for 143, just 18 short of the Lions score.
Meanwhile in the other games, Dampier Taverns 2 defeated Wickham by four wickets in a hard-fought game.
Wickham batted first and made their way to 129, with Kaid Kemp top scoring on 44.
Dampier appeared in complete control during the run chase cruising to 2-117 before losing four wickets for just nine runs.
It was too little to late though, with Taverners 2 able to finish on 6-131 and win by four wickets.
Meanwhile, a rampant 128-run opening partnership from the Karratha Kats steered the side to a massive 4-177 in their game against Dampier Taverners 1.
Taverners were unable to keep up with the run rate as regular wickets fell reducing the side to being dismissed for 119.
In the end Karratha Kats came away with the 58-run victory.
And in the final clash of the round, Pegs Creek 1 and Pegs Creek 2 battled it out for bragging rights in the all-important derby.
Batting first, Pegs Creek 2 made an imposing total of 154, with Nick Hegan top scoring on 85 from 90 deliveries, including 11 fours and three sixes.
However, Pegs 1 dominated the run chase, with Jordan Perkusich (79) and Lachlan Seabrook (45) powering the batting side to 2-157 and an eight-wicket victory.
