Detectives from the Perth homicide squad and South Hedland are investigating the death of a man in the State’s north overnight.

Police officers were called to a Catamore Road home in South Hedland about 1am today after reports of a violent altercation on the street.

Upon arrival, police officers found the alleged victim, a South Hedland man in his 30s.

A man known to the deceased was taken to hospital where he is under police guard and is assisting detectives with their investigation.

Homicide detectives flew up from Perth early this morning and arrived in Port Hedland about 8.30am.

Liquor stores in the Pilbara town will be closed until 3pm today.
