Phoenix and Wildcats claim impressive wins in round eight of Port Hedland’s mixed basketball competition

It was another thrilling round of Port Hedland basketball on December 5, with under-18 mixed teams going head-to-head at Wanangkura Stadium. Phoenix claimed the win in a tense high-scoring match against the Suns. Phoenix dominated the first half of the match, with Konol McPhee scoring two baskets, while the Suns struggled to match them despite Julius Cana scoring the most points for the half with four baskets, 25-15. Phoenix continued their surge in the second half, led by Robert Cochrane who scored four baskets, while the Suns’ Cana again put in strides with four baskets — but it wasn’t enough to stop Phoenix winning 53-32. Despite the loss, the Suns’ Cana led the scoring for the match with 16 points. The Wildcats put on a dominant display, nearly doubling the the score of opponents the Taipans. The Wildcats jumped to the lead in the first half, with Mohammed Rasyad Kalzee leading the charge with three baskets, backed up by Hezekiah Uiduldam with two baskets, 19-11. The game heated up in the second half, with both teams racking up high scores. The Taipans’ Brayden Parry scored three baskets in a row late in the game but it was already too late for them to take back the lead as Kalzee continued his surge, scoring an impressive nine baskets to take home the win for the Wildcats, 51-26. Kalzee led the scoring for the match with an imposing 26 points.
