McGowan announces Pilbara election commitments

With the State election just two months away Premier Mark McGowan today flew to the Pilbara to announce a slew of election promises aimed at “keeping the Pilbara strong”.

Among the re-election commitments were a $14.7 million community health facility in South Hedland, a $10 million boost to health initiatives at the Karratha Health Campus and more than $13 million for various upgrades to primary schools around the region.

Also included in the announcement was a $10 million redevelopment of visitor facilities in Karijini National Park, including a new campground, cultural walk trail and interpretive facilities, as well as road works to provide safer access to the most popular sites.

Premier McGowan said if re-elected, his government would continue to focus on local jobs.

“My government will continue efforts to reduce interstate FIFO and focus on delivering job-creating major projects to local companies and local workers,” he said.

“The Plan for Pilbara will carry on our significant work over the last four years to revitalise our TAFE sector, build quality local schools and health services, improve regional roads and support local tourism.

Member for Pilbara Kevin Michel said the region had been the engine room of the nation throughout the global pandemic and the plan would ensure the trend would continue.
