“I’m here as a facilitator, with council then setting the direction and deciding the priorities — the things that the shire needs to do for the local community.”

Mr Putland said he was impressed with the community engagement that occurred during the development of the council’s strategic plan.

“Its had a higher level of engagement from the community than I’ve ever seen from any shire ... and I’ve worked in a few,” he said.

“The engagement that I saw and heard, was that the people have really strong views about the future of their community and there appeared to be a huge amount of positive sentiment about Boyup Brook and where it could go and what it could be in the future.

“The feeling that I got is this is a really engaged and involved community that see a really bright future for Boyup Brook as a town and shire.”

He said being part of the Boyup Brook community was what excited him about taking on the role.

“It’s really the engaged community, living in a town where the community, large parts of the community are actively involved and engaged, and the response to the community strategic plan — the level of volunteering and people involved in different clubs and groups in the shire is phenomenal,” he said.
