The Warren-Blackwood Bombers Year 11-12 side is the toast of the town after winning a South West Junior Football League premiership, defeating the Busselton Magpies 9.11 (65) to 6.7 (43) at Hands Oval on Saturday.

Undefeated throughout the season, the Bombers started as red hot favourites, but Busselton ensured the contest lived up to expectations.

Early signs were good for the Bombers with constant forward line pressure, thanks to midfielders Tate East and Zac Hall, who provided the forwards with plenty of supply.

However, the Bombers’ forward line failed to convert the supply into goals and the Bombers went into quarter time with a slender three point lead.

Midway through the second quarter, a serious injury to Bombers prime mover Ewan MacDonald allowed Busselton to take control of the game.

While the Bombers gathered themselves as they restructured, it was left to their backs to stand tall, with Deklan Morgan and Zane Peskett thwarting many Busselton attacks.

Holding a slender seven point lead at half time, normally mild mannered Bombers coach David Horn let his feelings be known and implored his players to lift.

Midfielder Blake Wood clamped down on the opposition’s key midfielder and key Bombers forwards Charlie Waideman and Josh Edwards imposed themselves on the game. The scoreboard began ticking over as the Bombers’ midfield began to dominate the contest again, with Lachlan Smith demonstrating his ability to break free of the opposition and deliver to the forward line.

As the Bombers began kicking away they found themselves with a useful 16 point lead at three-quarter time.

Once again Busselton threw themselves into the contest, but were stopped by the Bombers’ defence.

After Waideman kicked his fourth goal and Waylon Toigo and Smith chimed in with a couple of long range goals, the result was beyond doubt.

Busselton managed to kick a couple of late goals to add respectability to the scoreline, but the Bombers were already in victory mode, holding on for a debut premiership in their debut season.

Goals: Charlie Waideman 4, Josh Edwards 2, Lachlan Smith, Bailey Scott, Waylon Toigo.

Best: Lachlan Smith, Blake Wood, Deklan Morgan, Josh Edwards, Zane Peskitt, Charlie Waideman, Zac Hall.
