ART Festival to draw a crowd

Artists across the State are being encouraged to get their entries in for the second annual Manjimup Art Festival.

The 2020 event will again be held in conjunction with the Manjimup Cherry Harmony Festival.

There is a youth category for teens aged 14-18 and an open category.

The open award is worth $3000, while the youth award combines a cash prize of $250, with Manjimup Art Gallery exhibition space ART ON THE WALL sponsorship and ongoing guidance from the Manjimup Art Festival team. Lily Gibbs-Hughes was last year’s youth award winner and said it was surreal to see her art work on display.

“It’s still pretty weird hearing about the compliments,” she said.

“I encourage everyone to go for it and enter — now that I’ve done it, it’s been such a rewarding experience.

“For me, as a younger person, to get feedback is really good.”

Manjimup Art Festival committee member Rebecca Drake said this year’s theme was Emergence.

“We feel this theme will resonate with artists from any background,” she said.

“We have all endured some kind of upheaval or turmoil during 2020 and we believe this will allow for a variety of interpretations.

“We hope our artists create their own connections to the theme based on their personal experiences.”
