An Esperance emerging artist will be supported in her artistic growth with a new scholarship at the Cannery Arts Centre.

Meleena Wych has been awarded the inaugural Art Lab Scholarship that will allow her to take part in workshops at the centre for the rest of the year.

She said she hoped the skills and knowledge she learned during the Art Lab sessions would help her work towards a creative career.

“I am and always have been an art lover, but I have never dived into it as deep as I have always dreamed about,” she said.

“I want to learn more about my passions and, in turn, learn more about myself so I can one day help others through a career of art therapy.”

The Cannery’s learning and engagement director Katie Witt said she was pleased to give a local artist the chance to explore their passion.

“It is exciting to be able to offer someone the opportunity to take time to be creative, explore various mediums and develop their artistic skills,” she said.

The Cannery Art Lab Scholarship is a trial project that will be open again in 2023, along with a host of other arts initiatives presented by the Cannery Arts Centre team.

Upcoming Art Lab workshops include life drawing, crochet, beading and nature painting.
