A South West town was transformed last weekend as the community of Brunswick took a walk down memory lane
The streets of Brunswick Junction were packed at the weekend, with community members, new and old taking a walk down memory lane.
On Saturday, Back to Brunswick Day brought residents back to the hustle and bustle of the 1950s with antiques and photographs on display, as well as the chance to reconnect and reminisce.
The Brunswick Community Resource Centre shuttled community members to the historic farmsteads at Melville Park and White Rocks, while the Brunswick Community Men’s Shed and Brunswick Slot Car Club both had displays at the oval.
The Lions club handed out sausages and burgers and Harvey Histories Online ran walking tours through town speaking about the history of Brunswick’s many old buildings.
Member of Harvey Histories Online Wendy Dickinson said the day was a chance for new residents to learn more and past residents to reconnect.
“I knew today would be successful — people in Brunswick always had a strong sense of community,” she said.
“Having people here that maybe don’t have that connection to the past, this is a great opportunity to learn all about Brunswick.”
Brunswick local Roy Scott described the day as “magnificent”.
“It’s always great to catch up with people, some of who I haven’t seen in many many years,” he said.
“It’s always unknown what to expect when setting something like this up, but the turnout is a credit to those who have helped put this day together.”
Silvio Romeo travelled down from Perth for the day, having left the town many years ago.
“This is where I grew up,” he said.
“It’s just lovely seeing people, on such a beautiful day, it just brings back so many old memories.”
