Nine bags of methamphetamine were allegedly seized by police during a search of a Katanning home last week.

Katanning police Sgt Roy George said police executed a search warrant at a house on Wednesday morning after concerned members of the public allegedly submitted evidence through Crime Stoppers.

Eight officers from Kojonup, Tambellup and Gnowangerup were involved in the operation.

The occupants were home at the time, Sgt George said.

Police allege cannabis and 1.5g of meth were seized during the search and the occupants’ phones were submitted for investigation.

Sgt George said it was good to get the drugs out of circulation.

He said the proactive work of officers alongside Katanning residents meant police had “sufficient evidence to conduct a search”.

“We’ve removed an amount of meth from the streets,” he said.

“Most of it would have been sold in and around Katanning.”

Sgt George said police would not tolerate any drug-related crime in town. “If you choose to try and deal drugs and get caught by police you will be charged with the full force of the law,” he said.

The alleged seizure came days before several drivers allegedly tested positive for meth in a roadside test in Katanning.

The State Government has introduced new legislation that will allow police to issue 24-hour driving bans for people who are caught driving under the influence of certain drugs or who refuse a roadside drug test.

The new drug driving laws are set to come into effect tomorrow.
