Short film festival Flickerfest brings a selection of the best to Geraldton

Australia’s largest short film festival is coming to Geraldton for the first time, showcasing award-winning films taken from the 10-day Flickerfest International Short Film Festival in Bondi.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Flickerfest will hit the road with a selection of the Best of Australian Shorts, arriving in Geraldton for one night only on March 31.

Nine films will be screened at Orana Cinema from 6.15pm, all with a runtime of 15 minutes or under.

The short film festival is touring the country from January to October, presenting a range of A-list films picked from a record 2700 entries.

Here are some of the highlights locals can look forward to.

Roborovski, which has won the Yoram Gross Award for Best Australian Animation, sees actors Tilda Cobham-Hervey and Dev Patel step behind the camera with an animated short following an adorable hamster seeking revenge — 15 minutes.

Painting By Numbers, from WA animator Radheya Jegatheva, explores a child’s encounter with classic masterpieces which triggers an epiphany — 4 minutes.

Wirun, starring Noongar woman Ebony McGuire, has been called a thought-provoking film in which a young Indigenous girl must dig deep to own her performance of a Shakespearean sonnet for her high school drama class – 9 minutes.
