Sarah Prickett’s heavy hitting leads Sportsmans to win in Geraldton women’s cricket, Wanderers beat Towns

Sarah Prickett’s return heralded a solid Sportsmans win over Chapman Valley-Northampton in Sunday’s Young Motors Women’s Cricket League.

CVN captain Kylie Bremner elected to bowl after she won the toss at GBSC4.

It might have paid off but for Prickett, 65 not out, who was the mainstay of Sportsmans’ 5-108 in their 20 overs.

While at the crease her tally counted for all but 20 runs off the bat, a sterling effort in an innings that included seven fours. It was also her highest score and she now averages 47.00.

While no one else recorded double figures, Michelle Steel and Tia Hatch ran hard and helped Prickett add 41 and 25 respectively.

Bremner and daughter Chloe Phillips were the best of the attack, with eight overs between them for 26 runs.

In the reply, Sportsmans bowled tightly with captain Jo Walker (1-8) and Stacey Jerrard (1-11) shining in their respective four-over spells. After 10 overs CVN were 2-31 and needed 7.8 an over to win. Kate Clarkson (41no) and Bremner (35no) gave it a shake, but the road was too long and they finished at 2-94.

At GBSC3, Wanderers recorded an imposing win over Towns to remain unbeaten.

Michelle McDonald, captain in Pam Micke’s absence, won the toss and bowled but the Wanderers’ batting barely missed a beat and they rattled up 5-123.

Charli Bidwell (25), one to watch as she’s getting stronger, put on 34 with older sister Olivia (20), Layne Gillingham (16) chimed in nicely and Sam Biddiscombe (33 off 22 balls) made quick runs.

Ruth Vorster (2-11 off four overs) was the pick of the bowlers.

Towns replied with 4-76, though a determined opening stand of 46 between Selina Kiddle (13) and Shannon Stubbs (24) briefly provided hope.

Opening bowlers Olivia Bidwell and Biddiscombe between them took 3-7 off their combined eight overs. That meant Towns had to find almost 10 an over off the other bowlers, and Wanderers captain Linda Rose is too experienced now to let that happen.
