Police deployed a mobile breath-testing facility in the Geraldton region earlier this month, with 0.63 per cent of drivers caught drink or drug-driving.

Over three days from March 17, officers subjected 3643 drivers to drug or alcohol testing, identifying 23 people who were driving with excessive alcohol or drugs in their system.

Geraldton Police Station officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Jason Scragg said 13 people were charged with exceeding the alcohol limit, and 10 others provided positive drug tests.

“We continue to warn members of the Geraldton community in relation to this type of behaviour and we make no apologies in targeting these people,” he said. “With the Easter period nearly upon us, drink or drug-driving is not worth it.”

He said police would step up their efforts over the Easter period, heavily patrolling on regional roads.

The mobile breath-testing facility was originally brought up for use at the cancelled Summersalt music festival.
