Geraldton Amateur Basketball League wrap: Olympians and Pumas keep unbeaten records in men’s and women’s comps

After five rounds of the Geraldton Amateur Basketball League, the men’s division one leaders, Olympians, have kept their unbeaten streak alive, with five wins from five games. An impressive win last round saw Olympians get the chocolates over third-placed Pumas on Tuesday. Olympians’ Richard Bartlett and Jayden Crudeli walked away with 22 points eachm driving Olympians home 86-77. Second-placed Chapman valley had a commanding win over fourth-placed Hawks on Tuesday, also hitting a patch of good form as they take their record to 4-1. Chapman Valley’s Aaron Ralph stamped his authority on the Hawks, scoring 38 points. Valley’s Mathew Wundenberg also chipped in, scoring 33 points. Chapman Valley ended up victorious over the Hawks, 131-73. Stateside took on Trades on Monday, with both teams looking to improve their record in a fifth v sixth battle. Johny Narkle proved the difference for Stateside with an impressive 37-point haul. A hard-fought effort from Trades’ Campbell Surtees with 32 points kept Trades in the game, but it simply wasn’t enough as Stateside defeated Trades 117-104. Round five of the women’s top division saw first-placed Pumas trot on with a tidy winning record of 4-0. Pumas took on fifth-placed Olympians on Tuesday, with a solid contest from both teams leading to a few standout performances. Pumas’ Millie Gerreyn put up 22 points in her side’s win, with Pumas defeating Olympians, 65-51 On Monday, fourth-placed Trades went up against second-placed Stateside, with Trades looking to move up the ladder. However, it was Stateside’s Abbie McDonald with 20 points, along with Maddy Graham (17 points) who proved the difference, with Stateside winning 74-46.
