Disciplined UF La Fiamma side win 3-0 against Kalamunda at home
Geraldton’s metro soccer team continued their unbeaten second round with a comprehensive home win over Kalamunda United FC.
Simon Moffatt, Shaun Hudson and player-coach Keegan Roos were all on the scoresheet on Saturday as the Ugle Fabrications La Fiamma stunned the visitors, 3-0, at the Salvatore Sciuto ground.
Roos said his side showed discipline and a positive approach, while the visiting side had the best of the bounce more often than not, sticking to the system they had been working on in training.
“It was great to see us play disciplined football for 90 minutes and stay positive throughout, resulting in a good win,” Roos said.
“Kalamunda are great with their spatial awareness and win 90 per cent of the second balls, but we prevailed and stuck to our game for the win.”
Moffatt, captaining the team with Matt Cable out injured, opened the scoring with a goal from close range, dummying the Kalamunda keeper after Liam Matthews had won a header from a corner.
The visitors’ evening only got worse from there, as playmaker Lachlan Gray played a spot on through ball for Hudson to give the side their second goal, before Roos added the final touch.
Hudson was man of the match in the league game.
Kalamunda had won the first-round league match by five goals, 6-1.
The reserves put up a good fight but lost, 3-1, with club stalwart Ian George featuring in defence and Brad Bentley showing commendable enterprise in goals.
After a difficult start to the season, UF La Fiamma have now gone three games without a loss. They drew at home against BrOzzy FC two rounds ago and split the points on the road last weekend when they faced Woodvale.
Next up is a trip to Fremantle City, a team they beat at home in the first round, 3-0.
