Arson Squad detectives are investigating a fire which severely damaged Geraldton’s only commercial laundry early on Thursday.

The blaze caused more than $1 million damage.

Hospitals, hotels and government companies are among the clients of the Flores Road, Spalding laundry.

“It is a big concern, this will cause some chaos,” a person from a cleaning company said.

“They are the only ones in Geraldton.”

Firefighters from Geraldton and volunteer bushfire brigades attended the fire, after the Department of Fire and Emergency Services received a call at 2.26am that a workshop was alight.

Crews at 3.53am reported the fire was contained but not controlled. It was extinguished at 5.25am.

“The Arson Squad was called and police are now investigating the fire,” a DFES spokesperson said.

The laundry is next to Platinum Electrical.

“What’s all the fuss about?” an electrician inquired as he arrived for work.
