Two people are dead after a horror crash in Perth’s southern suburbs in what is a tragic start to the WA Day long weekend on the State’s roads.

Major Crash investigators are at the crash scene after two vehicles collided near the intersection of Ennis Avenue and Elanora Drive in Cooloongup about 7.40pm.

The two deceased are from the same car while two other people from the second vehicle escaped serious injury.

Police are investigating whether the crash was the result of one car running a red light. The driver of the second car is in police custody and is expected to undergo standard tests for drugs and alcohol.

A section of Ennis Avenue is closed while officers examine the crash scene. Police want to speak to anyone who may have seen the crash.
