An unmarked police car was rammed overnight during a chase that ended with two people being tracked through bushland and arrested with the help of the canine squad.

The pursuit started about 1.45am this morning when officers spotted an allegedly stolen Holden Commodore driving on Great Eastern Highway in Rivervale.

It is alleged the driver of the Commodore failed to stop for officers and continued to lead police on a chase through Rivervale and Belmont before they lost sight of the vehicle.

The Commodore was later seen on Great Eastern Highway again, where the driver allegedly rammed the front of a stationary police vehicle as it turned on to Tanunda Drive, causing significant front-end damage.

The chase then continued through several suburbs along Tonkin Highway before the driver and passenger abandoned the car near Perth Airport and ran away.

Police say the female passenger was arrested after a short chase while the male driver was found hiding in bushland with the help of a police dog named Goose.

The 24-year-old driver was charged with two counts of failing to stop, two counts of reckless driving, two counts of assault to prevent arrest, driving without a licence and stealing a motor vehicle.

His 21-year-old passenger was charged with stealing a motor vehicle and possessing a prohibited drug.

Police allege the Holden Commodore was stolen from a home in Wattle Grove.

Both accused will face Perth Magistrate’s Court today.
