A man has been arrested over the suspected murder of a 59-year-old man whose body was found at a rural property in northwest Tasmania.

The 25-year-old was taken into custody in the early hours of Tuesday during a raid at a house in the city of Devonport.

No charges have been laid by police.

Volunteer firefighters discovered the body of the other man on a property in Sprent on Sunday night after being called to put out a car fire.

Tasmania Police, who believe the incident was murder, say he suffered significant head injuries.

Guns had been stolen from a locked safe in a caravan where the man lived.

Police have asked for anyone with CCTV of roads around Sprent to come forward, as well as anyone who saw people or cars in Sprent Forest on Sunday afternoon.
