Two men have been charged over the killing of a Melbourne rapper shot dead in his home.

Police on Tuesday said they charged two men, an 18-year-old from Broadmeadows and a 19-year-old man from Ascot Vale, with murder.

Rapper Chris Habiyakare, 24, who performed under the name Lyr1cure7, was found dead at his Essex Street, Sunshine North, home on August 24 after a group of armed intruders stormed the property.

Police say the rapper was at home with friends at the time and investigators believe he was specifically targeted.

No one else was injured during the attack.

Last week investigators renewed their calls for members of the public to come forward with information after a firearm, believed to have been used in the murder, was found.

At the time, Detective Inspector Tim Day said it was a matter of time before police were able to crack the case.

Both men are expected to front Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday night.
