Belmont incident: Stoneville man charged after WA Police officer seriously injured in alleged hit-and-run`

Wearing blue forensic overalls, Brenden Ross Green made a very brief appearance before a magistrate on Saturday where he was read the four charges he faces following an alleged hit-and-run that critically injured a WA Police officer. The 37-year-old accused confirmed he understood each charge, first by nodding and then responding, “Yes, your honour,” in a quiet voice to the remainder. His lawyer told the Magistrate Sandra De Maio that no application was being made for bail and he was remanded in custody to appear before Perth Magistrates Court, via video link, on Thursday. Police say the officer was run down by the accused, who driving a white Toyota HiLux ute near the roundabout at Stanton Road and Epsom Avenue in Belmont about 5pm on Friday. Police allege the officer was attempting to speak to the driver of the ute, which was stopped, when it sped away and struck him. The officer, a man in his 40s, was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital with critical injuries. A short time later the ute was found crashed down an embankment on the Roe Highway entry ramp near Clayton Street in Bellevue. The accused, from Stoneville, was arrested at the scene. He was charged with dangerous driving causing aggravated grievous bodily harm, failing to report an incident occasioning death or grievous bodily harm, failing to stop and ensure assistance received after an incident occasioning grievous bodily harm, and reckless driving. The police officer remains in a stable condition at Royal Perth Hospital.
