Sharon Fulton: Husband Raymond Reddington pleads not guilty to wife’s murder

Raymond Reddington — the husband of Sharon Fulton — has pleaded not guilty to the wilful murder of the missing mum who disappeared in the late 1980s. Mr Reddington appeared in the Stirling Gardens Magistrate Court via video link on Wednesday and spoke only to plead his innocence, before Magistrate Jan Whitbread committed him to trial. The 77-year-old was remanded in custody ahead of his first appearance in the Supreme Court on June 25. Mr Reddington was arrested by cold case detectives in October last year and it is understood the decision to formally lay charges followed an exhaustive and long-running assessment by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Mrs Fulton’s case was one of 64 suspected homicides to be allocated a $1 million reward in 2023, following a joint announcement by the WA Government and WA Police. Speaking to The West Australian following that announcement, Mrs Fulton’s son Heath said he and his family needed to bring peace to Sharon and to move on. “Whoever was involved in her death has lived their life for the last 37 years knowing they have caused my siblings and I so much pain and torture by not knowing what happened to our mother. “That person would be old now. They have an opportunity to bring us some small comfort in providing the truth. “Just as much as good people can do evil things, evil people can do good things too.” Mrs Fulton’s son sat quietly in the back of court with supporters as he heard Mr Reddington enter his plea. At the time of his arrest, Mr Reddington’s lawyer Jonathan Davies said he wanted the matter to proceed to trial given his “advancing years and infirmity”, and told waiting reporters he was instructed to say he was innocent. The development in the missing person’s case came a staggering 37 years after the devoted mum of four went missing from Duncraig on March 18, 1986.
