When it comes to both the local and global reaction to coronavirus, it proved to be a very eventful day on Friday.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison banned mass gatherings of more than 500 people from Monday, his colleague and Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton tested positive for COVID-19 and sporting events around the country were played behind closed doors.

In Formula One the Melbourne GP was postponed while the next two races in Bahrain and Vietnam were also delayed. The Perth Wildcats took on the Sydney Kings inside an eerily empty Perth Arena and the AFL moved to confirm that season openers would take place with no fans.

On a global scale, overnight the WHO labelled Europe the new epicentre of the pandemic and US President Donald Trump declared the country to be in a state of emergency.
