Dunsborough Lakes Golf Club was in the national spotlight last week after an award win as part of the 2019 ADH Club Car Western Australian Virtual Industry Awards night.

The club won the PGA Pro Am of the Year for its 2019 Urban Quarter Dunsborough Lakes Pro Am.

In the five years the event has been run, it is the third time it was nominated for the award and the first time it won.

Co-tournament director Sandra Haunold said the club was ecstatic about the win.

“It’s so good for our club,” she said.

“The awards are voted by pro-fessionals who play at all the events and to get chosen from among the other nominees feels wonderful.”

Haunold said the Pro Am was different because it was the only Pro Am in the country where all the participating professionals who played got paid. The 2019 event featured 33 professional golfers from around Australia and New Zealand and 99 amateur golfers.

“It gives the amateurs a chance to play with professionals,” she said.

“It also gives us a chance to show off our beautiful grounds to people from around the country.”

Haunold said it was a shame the event could not be held this year because of COVID-19.

“I have 33 teams already completed,” she said.

“Hopefully, we can do it later this year, but if not, we can’t wait to hold it again in June next year.”
