Tennis ace Hannah Nichols, July’s rising sports star, has her sights set on playing for an American college when she graduates from high school.

Nichols, 16, has played tennis for 10 years and said she enjoyed the individual nature of the sport.

“I like it because if you mess up you only have yourself to blame,” she said.

“I’m currently working on fixing my technique and my forehand, as well as enhancing my serve.”

Nichols is also interested in playing tennis in Europe with her eyes directed towards Germany.

Her love for tennis was hit hard in March when COVID-19 shut down the Busselton Tennis Centre, postponing many tournaments indefinitely.

“There were no tournaments during COVID-19, and now there aren’t any ranking tournaments — they’re all rating tournaments at the moment,” she said.

“I haven’t played any competitions this season because they’ve all been cancelled, but I did win the doubles club championship earlier in the year,” she said.

Nichols is now training for the club championships which are set to take place in two weeks time.
