Busselton Senior Citizens Centre will open its extended and refurbished facility on Tuesday with an afternoon tea at the Peel Terrace centre.

The six-month project extends the main hall, allowing for strong growth potential and larger attendances at centre activities. Centre manager Sue Greco said the organisation had seen an increase in attendances over the past few years with activities overwhelmed resulting in a need for redevelopment.

“The new hall, in particular, will give us the capacity to have more attendees at classes including indoor bowls, table tennis and cards,” she said.

“The most important thing is the fact we are a place to socialise and we’re very fortunate to have dining facilities.

“Loneliness is a terrible thing, if you’ve lost your partner the fact you can come here and mix with friends is important for mental health.”
