Busselton Margaret River region will no longer host the 2027 Australian Country Cricket women’s Championships

The Busselton–Margaret River region will no longer host the 2027 Australian Country Cricket Championships Women’s division, after a decision by the Australian Country Cricket Council to relocate the event to Country Victoria, where the men’s carnival is also being held. The change comes after ongoing sponsorship discussions failed to secure a formal agreement within the required timeframe, combined with rising operational costs. Increasing fuel prices and significantly higher flight expenses made it financially unviable to deliver a standalone women’s championship in Western Australia next year. WA Country Cricket Board chair Rob Marshall said in a statement that it was “a deeply disappointing outcome”. “We know how much hosting national events means to our players, volunteers, clubs and regional communities, and we share the frustration that Western Australia will not have this opportunity in 2027.” The decision is disappointing for the capes community, coming off a successful 2026 men’s carnival in early January in what was the first time the championship’s was played in the region. The championships were established in 1986 and has been a tournament that celebrates regional players, clubs and associations across the country. However, Cricket Australia advised in October that funding for the competition would cease from 2027, creating uncertainty with the historic competition’s future.
