YouTubers on the trail of a big clean-up

A four-wheel-drive enthusiast who has built a profile sharing his adventures on YouTube has organised a communal clean-up of the free camping sites at the Wellington Dam.

Brayden Creswell, the voice and the brains behind YouTube and Instagram profile 4x4 Camping and Adventures, which has more than 13,000 followers, is urging people visiting the popular tourist spot during the school holidays to leave it in a better condition than they found it in.

“One of our close mates had a bit of a spit on Instagram saying he was sick of finding rubbish and that sort of triggered me to jump on the cause,” he said.

“From there we just started collaborating and thinking about what we could do to clean up tracks.

“In the Eastern States, tracks are getting closed because people are trashing them and we just didn’t want to see that happening to us.”

Along with some other members of the community of camping and outdoors content creators, including Collie local Levi Fuller, Mr Creswell is planning a clean-up of the site on April 25, and encourages participants to camp there the night before.

Mr Fuller said he had been doing similar clean-ups in the area for a while. “We do a fair few clean-ups out here. This is probably our third or fourth out here and we do them at Black Diamond and along the river as well,” he said.

“For me it is only 10 minutes down the road so I am probably out here once a week.”

Cleanaway has arranged a skip bin for the day, while others will pitch in with trailers and manual labour.

Mr Creswell had a simple message for people visiting during the holidays. “Bring rubbish bags with you and take them with you on the way out,” he said.

“There’s a motto in the four-wheel-drive community, ‘leave it better than you found it’ and that’s what I go with.”
