Audiences will delight in a stage show full of howling laughs and a deadly good performance, as Dalyellup College adapt the 2012 Jonathon Dorf play, Just Add Zombies, for its stage.

The tale follows a high school drama cast who cannot get anyone to show up to their production of Romeo and Juliet, except a sleeping woman in the audience.

When they discover the sleeping woman is actually dead, the troupe turns her into a zombie so she can join the show and make it a hit with the zombie-loving masses. But eventually things start to go devastatingly wrong.

Co-directors Teneeka Grant and Wendy McMullen said the production was perfect timing for Halloween celebrations and there would be some tricks and treats for the audience. “It’s spooky content with a fun twist, it’s very tongue in cheek and designed to be fun,” Ms Grant said.

The lead roles Mitchy and Cora are played by Year 10 student Xavier Wickens, 16, and Year 12 student Hayley Arlow, 17.

Just Add Zombiesis the first production Xavier has been involved in and he said playing the lead role of Mitchy had been a great challenge.

“I have the most dialogue in the script, I have got it mostly down pact but I am working on it and it will be perfect for the night,” he said.

Hayley had participated in every school production since she began at Dalyellup College in Year 7 and said becoming new characters each year was a challenge she loved.

“It’s not learning lines; it is learning to be someone else for a moment. I love experimenting different ways of delivering characters,” she said.

Just Add Zombies will open at Dalyellup College next Thursday night at 7pm, with showings on October 30 and 31.
