Walk For A Bloke to host weekend of events to support men’s mental health

Broome is set to come together once again for a weekend of connection, awareness and support as Spoke To A Bloke gears up for its extended Walk For A Bloke Weekend event in March.
The annual Walk For A Bloke encourages men across Broome to come out and walk 25km over the course of a day to support their own and other men’s mental health.

However, this year the Walk for a Bloke is extending across the whole weekend from March 20 to 22, with the Broome Bowling Club hosting its BBQ for a Bloke on March 20, which will feature free lawn bowls for all entrants with a prize valued at $800 for the team that has the greatest numbers of walkers registered.
The main Walk For A Bloke event will be on March 21, with new multiple walking distance options to ensure everyone can take part no matter their fitness level.
In another welcome change, participants will be sporting bright white Walk For A Bloke shirts this year, offering greater comfort in Broome’s warm conditions and improved visibility along the route.
The walk route has also been flipped to make the beach section easier and more accessible, ensuring a smoother and safer experience for participants.
To wrap up the weekend, the Broome RSL will host a Walk For A Bloke family day on March 22 from noon, with bocce, darts and billiards for the whole family.
The organisation has also restarted its weekly walks this year from Cable Beach Surf Club on Sundays at 6.30am to help support men’s mental health outside of the annual events.
WA ambassador Sean Cooper said the new improvements were shaped directly by community feedback.

“Walk For A Bloke is about showing up for each other and creating opportunities to check in on our mates. The event is growing into a whole weekend of positiveness and mateship, which is something we are very proud of,” he said.
“The continued backing from community partners like the Broome Bowling Club and Broome RSL shows how strongly Broome stands behind mental health and community wellbeing.”
Registrations are now open on the Walk for a Bloke website.
