Halls Creek’s Jy Farrer was part of the Gold Coast Suns contingency which finally ended Fremantle’s — and Broome boy Bailey Banfield’s — winning steak.

Banfield continued to show off his skills, setting up fellow Docker Neil Erasmus with the first goal of his AFL career with a well-placed kick from the 50m line in the opening quarter.

Jy Farrar made solid efforts for the Suns making 13 disposals and five interceptions over the course of the game.

The Dockers were ahead by two points after the first term but failed to score a goal over the next two quarters, letting the Suns run away with the match, marking Fremantle’s first loss since round two against St Kilda and bringing an end to their five-game winning streak, 10.9 (69) to 4.9 (33).

The Melbourne Demons have remained on top of the ladder after defeating the West Coast Eagles on their home turf by 74 points on Sunday afternoon.

Despite their stunning loss the Eagles battled hard against last year’s premiers. Halls Creek’s Sam Petrevski-Seton scored a behind for the Eagles in the fourth quarter and made 14 disposals throughout the match.

But West Coast’s best efforts were snuffed out by the Demons who dominated the Eagles, winning the match by 74 points, a record loss for the Eagles against Melbourne, 16.16 (112) to 5.8 (38).

The loss makes it West Coast’s worst start to a season since 1989 with only one win on the board.

Unfortunately, Broome’s Jack Martin was out with an injury and couldn’t participate in the Carlton Blues match against the Greater Western Sydney Giants.
