A sighting of a saltwater crocodile in Broome Port has closed beaches across the tourist town for the next 24 hours — the second time within a week.
The dangerous 2.5m reptile was spotted at 10am on Thursday, according to the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions Park and Wildlife Service Broome.
It comes after a crocodile of the same size shut beaches across Broome last week after being spotted in the same area.
Entrance Point, Simpsons Beach, Demco Beach and Town Beach have been closed to the public for at least 24 hours. Parks and Wildlife Service rangers are patrolling the areas.
The Kimberley Parks and Wildlife Service urges residents and tourists to be “croc wise” while in the region.
Crocodile sightings can be reported to DBCA Park and Wildlife Service Broome on 9195 5500.
Crocodile alerts can also be followed at the DBCA website.
