The Karratha Roosters crowed their way to a 10-point win over the fast-starting Broome Jets last Saturday night in an intense contest.

The Roosters travelled to Broome to go up against the Jets in the third round of NRL WA’s North West Cup.

Despite having travelled hundreds of kilometres for the match, the Roosters put up a tough fight from the outset, shutting down the Jets wherever they could.

That was until Jets’ Simon Enosa broke through to score the opening try of the match, followed by a successful conversion from skipper Madison McGregor.

As Broome started to make up some good ground and put the pressure on the Roosters, it appeared the home-field advantage could work in the Jets’ favour.

Karratha responded with a try from Jimmy Kadar-Mia, and a successful conversion saw the scores level at quarter-time.

The even contest continued into the second quarter, although the Roosters would start making a run for it with tries from Ses Bero and Kody Ware. As Broome tried to remain in close contention, the Jets made up some ground and scored a try via Chevvy Roberts.

Karratha’s Patrick Thompson scored a late try for the Roosters, only for a quick response from Enosa to bring the scores to 22-16 in favour of the Roosters. The second half saw the teams continuing to put the pressure on each other as the Roosters continued holding the lead.

They would eventually extend their lead even further with a second try from Kody Ware. However, Broome held strong with a try from McGregor to keep the margin at six points at the final change.

The final term saw Karratha continuing to make good runs, with Jason Wake scoring a try early on.

Although a try from Broome’s Ben Shipway-Carr sparked comeback hopes, the deal was sealed when a field goal gave the Roosters the 36-26 victory.

Meanwhile, in Tom Price, the South Hedland Cougars continued their hot run with a 64-24 thumping over the Tom Price Steelers.
