It seems Broome Cricket Association was not immune to shock events in 2020 after its reigning premiers suffered their first loss of the season in a tight finish.

The Dirty Dozen went head to head with Mangrove in the third round of A Grade cricket last Sunday, with the Dozen electing to bat first.

Mangrove were quick to try and shut down the Dozen with Rahul Patel being caught out for a duck within the opening over.

Dozen’s Scott Hanna however, produced some big hits, hitting two fours and a six before being caught out for 18 by Matthew Jarvie.

Short hits and falling wickets seemed to get the better of the Dozen as skipper Adam Falls and Brett Morley suffered early exits and Rangana Ashan was forced to retire due to a hamstring injury.

While there was a glimmer of hope in fours hit by Joel Mulholland, Mangrove proved too strong as the Dozen finished all out for 82 after 18.4 overs, one of the Dozen’s lowest scores in a while.

At the change, Mangrove’s opening batsmen Fletcher Ghandour and Liam Bagnall took to the crease determined to bag the win.

Although Ghandour was bowled out for just one run by Sam Collins, Bagnall and Bradley Lovell proved the dynamic duo.

A number of big hits saw Mangrove cruise their way to victory in 15.2 overs, finishing on 1/83.

Meanwhile at Nipper Roe Oval, Roebuck defeated Wanderers 3/100 to 8/83.
