Kimberley healthcare supervisors recognised for mentoring students on placement at Majarlin awards night

Healthcare supervisors and preceptors who meaningfully supported and mentored students on placement experiences in the Kimberley have been recognised for their contributions at an awards ceremony in Broome. The Majarlin Kimberley Centre for Remote Health hosted its annual Kimberley Supervisor Recognition Awards at the Broome Surf Life Saving Club last week, honouring individuals and organisations who enhanced the learning experience of students on placement. Nominated by their students or colleagues, the recipients were recognised in five award categories across the nursing & midwifery and allied health sector who participated in Majarlin’s student placement program. Among the award winners, Jing Marais and Caroline Goodney were recipients of the innovative supervisor/preceptor award, which acknowledges excellence within clinical learning. Also recognised were Stuart Aamodt and Kath Aitken for their commitment to clinical teaching, while Melita Waters and Sascha Gregory were recognised for their passion towards positive change in the accessibility to health services in remote regions in the interprofessional collaborator award category. The outstanding supervisor award recipients were Steph Davidson and Andrea Cornish, while Broome General Ward and St Mary’s College were awarded the Thumbprint Award for providing students with opportunities to give back to the Kimberley. Around 100 guests were invited to the private ceremony, with live music by 15-year-old Amber Hurley keeping audiences entertained and canapes from Dewa’s Mobile Kitchen.
