Champs run away

As a new season of touch football action arrives at Father McMahon Oval, reigning premiers Greenbacks were up against a formidable opponent making their competition debut.

Greenbacks kicked off their second season of 2020 last Thursday with a match against newcomers Rajalie Headhunters.

While it did not take long for Greenbacks to break on to the scoreboard with an opening try from Timothy Carter, the reigning premiers found themselves under pressure from the Headhunters.

After what felt like a long stalemate, the Headhunters broke through to score their debut try thanks to Jasper John’s speed.

What followed was a bit of back-and-forth as both teams seemed to match each other try for try as the Headhunters started to give the Greenbacks a run for their money.

However, two late first-half tries from Brandon Walker and Ash Dann saw the Greenbacks hold strong to lead 6-4 at half-time.

The second half saw a similar pattern as Greenbacks came back firing out the gate.

Determined not to go down without a fight, the Headhunters continued putting the pressure on. As the contest progressed, fatigue got the better of the Headhunters, and Greenbacks went on to win 11-6.
