A bushfire on the Dampier Peninsula is threatening lives and homes in Jodi’s Block with people warned it is too late to leave and they must act immediately to survive.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued the dire warning at 2.38pm Tuesday, August 25 urging people to shelter in their homes or make their way to coastal areas.
DFES is warning people to take shelter before the fire arrives because extreme heat will cause death before flames reach them.
People should close doors and windows and take shelter in a room with running water such as a kitchen or laundry and have a clear exit.
If the shelter catches fire and the heat becomes unbearable people should move to an area that has already been burnt.
Wearing leather boots is recommended in case leaving shelter is necessary.
Jodi’s Block sits west of Mercedes Cove Retreat and north of Middle Lagoon on the Dampier Peninsula.
It is one of three areas on the Dampier Peninsula with bushfires currently burning.
A bushfire advice is currently in place for people east of Mercedes Cove Retreat Road including Pender Bay and Whalesong Campground and in Cape Leveque Road near Bobby Creek.
